Letter from the President
Welcome to the Ohio Security Traders Association (“OSTA”) website. We’re glad you are visiting us online.
The OSTA is an active professional organization that offers Ohio based institutional traders an opportunity to build greater levels of trust and confidence by encouraging more interaction and networking in our investment community. 2011 has been a very exciting and successful year for us with our move from Cleveland Security Traders Association (CSTA) to Ohio Security Traders Association (OSTA) effective January 3, 2011. We have increased our membership and built relationships among institutional traders and sales people across the state of Ohio, provided a more impactful political voice in Washington D.C. with regard to legislative, regulatory and technological processes, and last but not least, lived up to our organization’s commitment to give back to the Ohio community. From our first “Season of Giving” Charity event in November of 2009 to Present, we have given a total of $55,000 in charitable donations to smaller organizations (nominated on by our own members) that can sometimes be forgotten by the corporate community. We started in 2009 with donations of $7500 to 3 local Cleveland charities, 2010 with $20,000 to four local Cleveland charities, and because of our expansion in 2011 we were able to make charitable donations across the state of Ohio totaling $27,500. We couldn’t be more proud of this accomplishment and give special thanks to all of our sponsors for supporting our organization and its goals.
Along with expanding our reach across the state, we have also added two regional roundtables in Columbus and Cincinnati in the spring and fall, while we continue to host our annual Summer Outing and Season of Giving Events in Cleveland. These regional events have been met very favorably by buy and sell side alike. Topics such as market structure, fragmentation, liquidity, best practices, TCA and dark pools have been discussed, and we will continue to rely on members’ input to ensure these roundtables are meaningful going forward. This year’s Spring roundtable will be held in Cincinnati in mid to late April, the Summer Outing will be held in Cleveland on June 28th and 29th, the Fall roundtable will be Columbus in late September/early October, and the annual Season of Giving event will be in Cleveland in late November/early December. Dates will be firmed up during the year.
The OSTA Board is very excited about the future of our Ohio affiliate and what it means for our trading community. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the outgoing Board, and a warm welcome to the 2012-2013 Officers and Board Members whom I look forward to working with as we continue to build on membership, educational content and charitable giving. Please feel free to contact me, or any of our board members, with any suggestions as to how we can make the OSTA the best STA affiliate that we can become. The longstanding principle of the National Security Traders Association (“STA”) is “Dictum Meum Pactum” which means “My word is my bond. “ Through the OSTA, we’re constantly trying to live up to this principle by deepening our relationships with one another.
